Mould for a conditioned mother | 150 X 200 cm | Winter 2021 | Mould; by cutting out the plates of a plasterer, the artist uses the cut-outs as a mould for his graphite work
This work shows the mould for ‘the conditioned mother’. In this work, the mother is seen as the fundamental transformer of the child. A being formed by nurture that provides the child with its own characters, morals, norms, values and verbal as well as non-verbal influences, originating and transmitted by previous generations. Completely equipped with external influences, the spheres, the mother’s head is replaced by a funnel. This funnel represents human consciousness, a perspective moulded by nurture that is receptive to everything from its external environment. Every human being is subject to his own ‘Tunnel Vision’, his own perspective and truth on his existence.
